LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s specialized ARMOR section stopped by FOX5 Thursday.
ARMOR stands for All-Hazard Regional Multi-agency Operations and Response. They gave us a look at the high-tech tools they use to keep the community safe including a very smart robot dog.
The team displayed some of the most advanced tech in the country, from robots that can inspect hazardous areas to tools used in high-risk swat operations. These machines let officers safely assess dangerous situations before sending anyone inside.
“So we can go inside. There’s some auto manipulation stuff to open doors, which makes it a lot easier for us versus the older platform we had to do a lot of manipulation with that on our own. This you can pretty much set it up and do it that way,” said Officer Maxwell Nitzel. “Plus the camera capabilities on this are really, really impressive. It’s pretty good to send this in before we have to send any bodies inside the house,” he added.
The ARMOR section also provides support to other valley SWAT teams and federal agencies.
