Conor McGregor high-tailed it out of a funeral, and police are investigating to figure out why.
McGregor, the 35-year-old UFC star, was attending a funeral for a family member at The Saddle Club in Birkenhead in the United Kingdom on Tuesday.
Video obtained by TMZ shows McGregor exiting the scene before everybody else, flanked by two security guards, after an “incident” at the memorial.
As fans of the MMA fighter were calling out to McGregor, he appeared to be in a hurry and waved them away before driving off.
Club officials wrote in a Facebook post that McGregor had been in a cheerful mood earlier in the day, but became “upset by the actions of certain people attending the funeral,” before exiting the event.
“Mr. McGregor’s security detail decided it necessary to leave to avoid unnecessary speculation and attention,” the officials said.
Merseyside Police told TMZ that they were called to the club early Tuesday evening after there was an altercation.
“Officers attended the pub and spoke to a number of people,” the police department said in a statement.
“Further enquiries are being carried out to establish what has taken place but at this stage no complaints have been made and nobody has been arrested.”
Representatives for McGregor did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment.
McGregor was accused last month of sexually assaulting a woman in the bathroom at a Miami Heat NBA Finals game, claims he vehemently denies.
“The victim was able to get Mr. McGregor to cease his assault by demanding he stop because she had to urinate,” the woman’s lawyer said in a demand letter.
“When the victim attempted to urinate, Mr. McGregor, instead of giving her privacy to do so, pulled out his penis and shoved it down the throat of the victim. The victim pushed Mr. McGregor off of her, and Mr. McGregor then spat on the victim and on his penis in a desperate attempt to get his flaccid penis hard.”
An attorney for McGregor said in a statement that “the allegations are false. Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated.”
