Former UFC star Nate Diaz turned himself in to the New Orleans Police Department and was booked into custody on a charge of felony second-degree battery on Thursday, according to police spokesperson Karen Boudrie told ESPN.
Diaz posted bond and was released from police custody less than four hours after he was booked into jail, Zach Rosenfield, a rep for the fighter, told TMZ.
A judge has since allowed Diaz to resume travel after the 38-year-old appeared to choke out TikTok personality Rodney Petersen, leaving him unconscious during a brawl on Bourbon Street last Friday.
The incident — which was captured on video and shared to social media — took place after Diaz attended a boxing card at the XULA Convention Center to support teammate Chris Avila, who defeated Paul Bamba.
“We appreciate how we were treated by the New Orleans Police Department, the court and their staff,” Rosenfield said.
In a separate statement, Diaz’s rep added, “We continue to look forward to presenting all the evidence and videos that show Nate was acting in self-defense.”
According to jail records, Diaz was booked at 7:40 a.m. on a charge of second-degree battery.
An arrest Warrant for Diaz was issued on the second-degree battery charge on Tuesday.
Police said they were alerted to a “large altercation” on Bourbon Street at 2 a.m. Saturday morning and after an investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Diaz.
In social media videos of the altercation, Diaz and Peterson — who has gained popularity for resembling YouTuber Logan Paul — squared up before the ex-UFCer appeared to put the internet personality in a guillotine choke, leaving him out cold and lying in the street.
EMS was called to attend to a man who was bleeding from the back of his head, police told ESPN.
In a separate video on Twitter, Peterson showed the back of his bloodied head while addressing the scuffle.
“So, I don’t know what the hell I did to Nate Diaz,” Petersen, who appeared to have blood smeared across his neck, said in the video posted by Overflow on Twitter.
“But I tell you what, I’m going to knock him the f–k out when I know he’s coming. You caught me off-guard dude. What’d you think I was Logan?”
It’s unclear if Petersen was seriously injured in the scuffle.
Diaz is scheduled to fight Logan’s younger brother, Jake Paul, in a boxing match August.
