PIMA COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — One person is in critical condition after a shooting involving Border Patrol agents Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Details are extremely limited, but the shooting happened just after 7:30 a.m. along Arivaca Road, near milepost 15 in the southern portion of Pima County. Arivaca is a community about 10 miles from the border.

The Santa Rita Fire District told the Associated Press it responded to the shooting and the person who was wounded was in custody.

“Patient care was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” the fire district said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Border Patrol’s involvement, but details surrounding what led up the shooting haven’t been released. It’s also unclear if any law enforcement personnel were hurt in the incident.

“We are working in coordination with the FBI Phoenix-Tucson office and U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos in a social media statement.

Arizona’s Family and the Associated Press reached out to Customs and Border Protection and the FBI for additional details. Both federal agencies did not immediately respond to emails and telephone calls.

This is the 7th shooting involving law enforcement so far this year in Arizona, and the second reported in southern Arizona on Tuesday. Shortly after midnight, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper was involved in a shooting near Interstate 10 and Speedway Boulevard in Tucson.
