LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One person is dead and two have been hospitalized following a head-on collision in the central Las Vegas valley on Sunday night.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred at 9:08 p.m. on West Lake Mead Boulevard and Sawyer Avenue. Police determined that A Toyota Scion was traveling westbound on Lake Mead at a high speed, while a Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Lake Mead.
The crash occurred when the Scion entered the eastbound lanes and collided with the Civic.
Arriving medical personnel declared the passenger of the Civic – identified as a 62-year-old woman – dead at the scene. The drivers of the Scion and the Civic were transported to UMC Trauma with critical injuries, where both remain in “critical condition.”
Police say the driver of the Scion – identified as 18-year-old Angel Bello-Martinez – displayed signs of impairment. He was booked in absentia on charges of DUI resulting in death or bodily harm, and reckless driving resulting in death or bodily harm.
“The passengers death marks the 35th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” police noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
