
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The driver of a pickup truck died after the vehicle was struck by an oncoming SUV attempting to avoid a collision, according to the Nevada State Police.
The crash occurred Oct. 7 just before 12:30 a.m. on southbound U.S. 95, south of mile marker 16 in Nye County.
Investigators said a pickup truck had stopped on the northbound freeway. Police said an SUV traveling north swerved to avoid hitting it. In the process, the SUV entered the southbound lanes and collided with another pickup.
The driver of the southbound pickup, identified as Richard Dow Haviland, 34, of Pahrump, died at the scene, police say.
According to a release, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 48 fatal crashes resulting in 49 deaths.
