11-year-old girl seriously injured after she was hit by a car in northeast Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An 11-year-old girl was hospitalized with serious injuries after being hit by a car Monday in northeast Las Vegas, according to police.

The crash happened on Lake Mead Boulevard and Peaceful Spirit Lane, close to Walnut Road, just before 4:40 p.m. Police say a 2019 Nissan Rogue was driving east down Lake Mead when the 11-year-old girl began crossing the street in heavy traffic outside of a marked crosswalk. According to a release, the driver hit the brakes and swerved to avoid a collision but was not able to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

The 11-year-old girl was taken to UMC Trauma with serious injuries.

Police say the driver remained on scene and they do not suspect impairment.

The crash is still under investigation.
