COOLIDGE, AZ (AZFamily) — Two men from Pinal County have been indicted following a months-long investigation into a cockfighting and illegal enterprise operation, the Pinal County Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Samuel Felix, 60, and Gerald Vaughn, 61, were indicted on 80 counts of cockfighting and one count of controlling an illegal enterprise, all felonies.

The investigation began during the summer, after detectives identified suspected cockfighting activity at two homes on Main Street, south of Coolidge Avenue and west of Picacho Street.

Officers searched the two homes on Oct. 29 and they said they recovered more than 110 fighting roosters, along with paraphernalia, training equipment, ledgers, steroids, and cash linked to a cockfighting ring.

Investigators said they found guns and evidence linking Felxi and Vaughn to gangs.

Neglected dogs and other animals were also found during the search, PCAO said. The Arizona Humane Society was called out to help the animals.

“Cockfighting is a brutal and organized criminal activity that fuels animal cruelty and associated illegal enterprises,” Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller said in a written statement. “Our office will aggressively prosecute those who profit from these operations and violate Arizona’s laws and community standards.”
