LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One person died after falling into deep water without a life vest, according to Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Officials reported that Park Rangers and the Boulder City Fire Department responded to the incident to find the 19-year-old victim unresponsive.

Lake Mead Public Affairs explained the victim slipped off the shelf near the Nelson’s Landing area.

NPS reminds visitors that cliff-jumping at Nelson’s Landing is prohibited. They also explain that a flotation device is required on Lake Mohave, which can be found at several loaner stations throughout the park.
