TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD/Gray News) – Two people are dead following a crash involving two small planes at the Marana Regional Airport near Tucson, Arizona.

Marana Police say the collision happened at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The National Transportation and Safety Board says the mid-air collision involved a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II.

The Federal Aviation Administration said two people were on board each plane.

A local pilot told KOLD at the airport he was about to fly his plane but was told just before takeoff that the airport was closed.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
