LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An opportunity for members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community to interact with those trying to keep them safe.
Thursday afternoon, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched its first ever meeting of the AAPI Alliance. It is expected to meet every two months to discuss issues and concerns from community members.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill was on hand today. He said a lot of crime, especially around Chinatown is not reported enough.
“What we’re really trying to do is encourage that relationship building so that all of these folks feel the level of trust that we want to develop with them, so that they can increase that reporting so we can focus on the individuals targeting them,” he said.
Under McMahill’s leadership, Metro Police’s Office of Community engagement launched three specific groups to work with specific communities in the valley: the Hispanic Alliance, the Black Alliance, and now the AAPI Alliance.
