LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Southern Nevada Health District has reported four salmonella cases in Clark County linked to brown cage-free and certified organic eggs.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s leading a coordination investigated into the outbreak as several states report cases. SNHD says it’s working closely with the CDC and state partners to monitor the situation.

The CDC says as of Wednesday, at least 50 Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported nationwide.

“Salmonella can cause serious illness. Symptoms typically begin six hours to six days after exposure and include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps,” the CDC said. “Most people recover without medical treatment, but some individuals, especially young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems, are at greater risk of developing severe illness or complications that may require hospitalization.”

The CDC provided the following tips in a news release:

  • Do not eat any recalled eggs. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them.
  • Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled eggs using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
  • Call your health care provider if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:
    • Diarrhea or vomiting lasting more than two days
    • A fever higher than 102°F
    • Bloody diarrhea or bloody urine
    • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
    • Signs of dehydration, such as not peeing much, dry mouth and throat, and feeling dizzy when standing up
