LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Valley has at least six more weeks of triple-digit temperatures.
With daytime temperatures well above normal and in another excessive heat warning, we’re all starting to feel a sluggish, says Alexis Brignola, an Epidemiologist with the Southern Nevada Health District.
Hot days could cause people to suffer from dehydration, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.
Brignola tells FOX5 just be aware of the weather conditions.
“Keep track of the temperatures, we have another month and a half of daytime temperatures that normally climb above 100 degrees.” she said.
This latest wave of excessive heat feels at least as harsh as the one earlier this summer when temperatures climbed up to 120 degrees.
Spending time in an air-conditioned environment can lull us into a false sense of what the temperatures are outside.
“Make sure you are not staying out too long, keep hydrated and be aware of your surroundings,” she said
According to the Centers For Disease Control, in 2023 nearly 120, 000 people required emergency room treatment due to heat.
Heat, according to the CDC, kills more people in the U.S. that foods, tornadoes and hurricanes.
