LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police said a man in his 30s died from a stabbing and the suspect was shot at during a fight at a 7/11.

Police said the stabbing and shooting happened in the 900 block of Rancho Drive near Washington Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found a male inside the 7/11 with a stab wound. Officers treated him until medical arrived and took him to UMC. However, he would later pass away at the hospital.

When officers arrived at the scene, they received a second call from a man at his home near the 7/11 who told police he was shot at. Police responded to his residence and noticed that he matched the description of the suspect who stabbed the victim.

Police would take the suspect into custody without further incident.

Police said details of the incident are preliminary. However, they believe that the suspect was loitering, possibly also panhandling, in front of the 7/11. While the suspect was in front of the store, the victim and his friend drove up in a vehicle.

Police would reveal that the victim’s friend was armed during this incident.

While the victim was inside the store, his friend and the suspect, both men in their 40s, got into a verbal fight. Police said the suspect charged him.

The friend then used his firearm to shoot but missed.

After the shooting, the two stopped fighting. When the victim exited the store, he and the stabbing suspect would also get into a fight. The fight ended with the victim and the friend leaving in their car.

Police said the two stopped the car near the 7/11 and exited the vehicle again. They again approached the suspect and a physical fight occurred.

The suspect then stabbed the victim. Police believe that two parties do not know each other, but that’s how the two service calls for the stabbing and the shooting took place.

Police say the suspect is cooperating with the investigation.
