LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Two days after a massive tech outage disrupted flights worldwide, delays and cancellations continued Saturday at Harry Reid Airport.
“I trusted the process because I thought it was going to be fine, but it wasn’t,” said Sophia Neilsen from New York.
“Frustrated, upset, out of extra money because now we have to rebook through another airline, which it’s saying is delayed, so I’m praying that we get home,” said Darneisha Beeler from LA.
On Friday, Harry Reid Airport officials said airline systems were back up and working to rebook flights, but cancellations and delays were still impacting travelers on Saturday.
“We get to here, Las Vegas, for our layover, and then now our flight is canceled,” said Beeler.
“I knew that there were outages yesterday. I thought that everything was resolved,” said Neilsen. “So I came to the airport today, knowing that there were issues yesterday but thinking it was going to be fine to go on the flight, and it ended up not being fine. I ended up missing everything,” Neilsen said.
Neilsen was headed to LA for an internship opportunity.
“I just missed one of the best opportunities of my youth,” she said.
Beeler’s family was on their way back to LA from a funeral in Chicago. She said they were supposed to arrive in Chicago on Thursday when the outage first hit.
“We didn’t get there until the next day, got off the plane, had to go straight to the funeral and not even shower, no change, no nothing,” she said.
And the way back was more of the same headache. “We get to here Las Vegas for our layover, and then now our flight is canceled,” said Beeler. “So yeah, it’s frustrating.”
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg put out a message on social media Saturday for travelers to know their rights when flights are canceled: “I am hearing reports of some airlines only offering flight credits to passengers for canceled flights. Let me be clear — you are entitled to get your money back promptly if your flight is canceled and you don’t take a rebooking.”
