LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5)—The Southern Nevada Health District has reported seven probable and confirmed Mpox cases in Clark County.

According to health officials, there are two types of Mpox: clade I and clade II.

Officials have reported that Clade I is endemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has caused severe illness and death.

“Mpox spreads through close or intimate contact,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. “The most effective way for those at risk to protect themselves is by receiving two doses of the Mpox vaccine if eligible.”

The Health District shared zero cases of clade I have been detected in the United States.

According to the Health District, a two-dose vaccine series could lower the risk of Mpox or the severity of symptoms if contracted.

Vaccination information can be found on the CDC’s website.
