LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – No homework for the rest of the year could mean good news for students, but parents are worried this could affect their student’s learning.
Some who spoke with FOX5 are surprised that a budget issue from the district has now trickled down and is affecting paper and ink.
FOX5 spoke with a parent who wants to just be referred by her first name, Caitlin.
Caitlin said she got a message from Barber Elementary that said in order to cut cost on paper and toner, the second graders will not get homework packets for the rest of the year.
“This is pretty extreme if the kids cant have 3 pages of printed home work a week, what’s next? what is going to be cut and taken away from the students next?,” Caitlin said.
Caitlin tells FOX5 she is upset the budget issues are now affected students.
“Homework packets also hold parents accountable in a way you know we signed off that we assisted that we checked their work I think kids need that accountability especially at 7 and 8 years old,” Caitlin said.
FOX5 did reach out to Clark County School District and they said each school is working out budget cuts on a case by case bases.
As for cutting down on ink and paper, they said it could have been a decision made by school staff.
