LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County commissioners approved plans to expand and modernize Harry Reid International Airport.

The County Department of Aviation presented the plan to commissioners during Tuesday’s meeting. The proposal would expand Terminal 1 by adding 26 new gates and expanding the existing layout into the former Terminal 2 site. Terminal 3 would also be redesignated as Terminal 2.

The second level of Terminal 2 would be redesigned to include new ticketing areas and a “curbside self-bag-drop-off,” according to a release.

Roadways would also be upgraded to include a “terminal-to-terminal flyover” to support a one-way circular motion for traffic. The release adds that the flyover would improve airport traffic movement and safety by separating bypass commuter traffic.

Additionally, two multi-modal centers will be built for rideshare, public transportation, and parking for employees and crew members to help improve connectivity.

Additional approvals are needed before construction can begin, including from airlines and on a proposed budget.
