BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KOLO) -The Bakersfield Police Department arrested two Reno residents after a child in their custody died Thursday.

Police arrested Gregory Joseph MacDonald, 29, for aggravated child abuse causing death. They arrested Chandy Ann McCarthy, 40, for felony child endangerment.

Police did not specify in the press release the relationship between MacDonald and McCarthy or their relationship to the child.

Police went to a home in central Bakersfield on Thursday on a report of a 2-year-old girl in medical distress. Police and emergency medical personnel gave life-saving help. The child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

An investigation showed the child suffered traumatic injuries consistent with abuse. MacDonald and McCarthy were booked into the Kern County jail. A second child in the home was taken into protective custody.
