LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Abu Dhabi has been announced as the new home of the world’s second Sphere.

Sphere Entertainment Co. and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi shared the announcement Tuesday, almost a year after a similar proposal for a London venue was rejected in January.

CEO James Dolan stated that Abu Dhabi will bring the company one step closer to its vision of “a global network of venues.”

He added, “Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city.”

Sphere officials describe the new venue as a “landmark addition” to the city that will highlight the Sphere’s unique technology and original content. The venue will also mirror Las Vegas’ own Sphere with a capacity of 20,000.

Sphere Entertainment and DCT Abu Dhabi will collaborate on the venue’s construction, but the region’s tourism authority will foot most of the bill. Initial agreements include a franchise initiation fee as well as an annual fee to license the Sphere’s creative and artistic content, proprietary technology, and strategic support.

H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “We are excited to bring Sphere to Abu Dhabi in partnership with Sphere Entertainment, providing our residents and visitors with an extraordinary new form of entertainment. Sphere Abu Dhabi will seamlessly integrate advanced technology with captivating storytelling, creating unforgettable memories for everyone who visits. This partnership aligns with our Tourism Strategy 2030, further establishing Abu Dhabi as a vibrant hub for culture and innovation. By embracing cutting-edge entertainment like Sphere, we’re not only elevating our global profile but also setting new standards in immersive experiences and cultural offerings.”
