LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is extending hours and offering walk-in hours to help people needing voter registration to participate in this year’s election. which includes getting a Nevada driver’s license or state ID to register to vote.
From now until Saturday, November 2, customers can walk into any DMV office from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday if they need voter registration assistance. No appointment is needed during these times.
“In addition, on Monday November 4, 2024, and Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (Election Day), DMV metro offices will be open extended hours from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. to assist customers needing voter registration to be able to vote,” says the DMV.
“What we’re really trying to do, is trying to help as many people as possible to get their voter registration,” said Nevada DMV Public Information Officer Hailey Foster.
DMV officials say when new residents from out of state come in to get a driver’s license or ID card to register, they will leave with an interim document that will allow them to register online or in-person at a polling location and vote.
The DMV says those new residents should bring that interim document with them to vote, saying the signature on it may be compared to the signature when voting. The DMV also advises people to bring their voided, out of state, driver’s license or ID card with them to vote.
The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office says new residents who have the temporary paper driver’s license or Nevada ID card from the DMV, called the “interim document,” may use the document as a legitimate and verifiable piece of identification to same-day register.
The DMV provides a new resident guide so people know what they will need when showing up to the DMV to get a new driver’s license or ID card.
