LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Three UNLV women’s soccer players collected Mountain West accolades as junior Gianna Newby and sophomore Trinity Buchanan earned All-MW Second Team honors and redshirt freshman Amaya Haley made the MW All-Newcomer Team, the league office announced Monday.

“We are thrilled for Gianna, Trinity and Amaya to be recognized,” said UNLV head coach Jenny Williams. “They are fantastic players on and off the field and are only rising in level, confidence and performance each year. This is so well-deserved and I couldn’t be more delighted for them.”

This is the first time the Rebels have received multiple all-conference selections and an all-newcomer honor in the same season since the 2020-21 campaign.

Buchanan, a local product out of Coronado High School in Henderson, led the UNLV attack and finished ranked among the top 10 individually in every offensive category. The former Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year ended the season tied for seventh in points (18), tied for eighth in goals (6) and assists (6) and 10th in shots (47) in the conference. She played and started all 20 games on the year, helping the Rebels to top-5 rankings as a team in goals (25) and assists (23).

Newby, another Las Vegas native out of Rancho High School, guided the Rebel backline that became one of the MW’s best in goals allowed, goals against average and saves. The team captain’s leadership propelled UNLV to top-5 league defensive rankings in three categories, including fifth in goals allowed (26) and goals against average (1.30), as well as third in saves (99). Starting all 20 games, Newby played the full 90 minutes in all but one of those for a team-best 1,787 minutes while adding three assists for three points.

Originally from Plano, Texas, Haley became a mainstay for the Scarlet & Gray backline that ranked top-5 in the conference in 2024 after redshirting last season. She also started each of the squad’s 20 games, playing the full 90 minutes in 19 of those contests to rank second second on the team with 1,786 minutes played. Additionally, Haley racked up two assists for two points on the year.

Behind its trio of conference award-winners, UNLV qualified for the Mountain West Tournament for the first time since 2016 behind a 5-5-1 record in conference play. With that, the Scarlet & Gray outplayed its projected tied-for-seventh finish in the MW preseason poll by finishing fifth in the regular season standings.
