LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of Henderson provided an update after a crash broke a water valve on Coronado Springs.
The crash happened Monday afternoon. FOX5’s Sean Dowling went to the scene and learned that three homes were impacted by the water valve breaking.
Officials said an SUV rolled on its side and hit the water valve. Police did not say if the driver was speeding or any other possible factors in the crash.
The city confirmed with FOX5 that the valve wasn’t turned off for about two hours. Viewers started to send video of a makeshift geyser.
The City of Henderson said the valve was buried under asphalt, which made it difficult to locate and uncover.
“Typically, water valves are accessible from the surface, allowing for a quick shut-off,“ the city said. ”Because of this unique situation, the shut-off process took longer than usual, at about two hours.”
The estimated water loss was less than 100,000 gallons. When incidents like these happen, it is customary to settle any expenses with the private party’s insurance company.
The city says if residents observe damage to property or a mass amount of water loss, like the one in this incident, they are encouraged to call the non-emergency line at 3-1-1.
