LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada) announced the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Nevada Clean Energy Fund $7.7 million to buy and install 25 electric school buses for districts across the state.
Senator Cortez Masto led the push for the Clean School Bus Program to be part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It provides $5 billion over the next five years to replace school buses with zero- and low-emission models.
“I’m thrilled to see these federal dollars I secured for clean buses coming to Nevada to help our schools lower their energy costs and keep kids safe and healthy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Nevada’s clean energy boom is creating jobs and helping students and families across the state, and I’ll always fight to provide Nevadans with the resources they need to succeed.”
The Nevada Clean Energy Fund is a non-profit created in 2017 to provide financial and technical resources to create clean energy jobs statewide, reduce energy costs, and speed up the state’s transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources. It will work with school districts statewide to help them replace their bus fleets with electric vehicles. NCEF says this will help reduce maintenance and fuel costs and reduce air pollution at the same time.
