LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Kroger announced they will not close Albertsons and Vons grocery stores in Las Vegas after Kroger halted the merger with Albertsons.
Kroger sent FOX5 a statement Wednesday:
Under the terms of the now-terminated merger with Kroger, these stores were previously identified for divestiture to C&S Wholesale Grocers. Because the merger has been terminated, these stores will no longer be divested, and they will continue to be operated by Albertsons Companies.
The divesture plan was announced in September 2023, nearly a year after the two announced a merger.
“The divestiture plan ensures no stores will close as a result of the merger and that all frontline associates will remain employed, all existing collective bargaining agreements will continue, and associates will continue to receive industry-leading health care and pension benefits alongside bargained-for wages,” a news release from September said.
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is among nationwide AGs who had filed a lawsuit alleging the merger is a monopoly.
“Nevadans made their concerns known regarding this merger, and we listened,” Ford said in a news release earlier this year.

AG Ford says he believes the block is a step in the right direction to protect consumers from rising grocery prices.
In September, the company said fifteen Nevada stores would be impacted.

- Albertsons — 4800 Blue Diamond Rd, Las Vegas
