LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV swimming senior Daniel Nicusan was named WAC Swimmer of the Week and diving sophomore Alex Vazquez earned WAC Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Friday.

This marks the second time this season that Nicusan and Vazquez have swept the WAC weekly awards.

Nicusan, a native of Targu Mures, Romania, had three top-5 individual finishes to lead the Rebels to a team victory at its annual UNLV Finis Invitational in Las Vegas.

He won the 100 IM with a time of 48.04, grabbed a third-place finish in the 50 free and posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 back.

Additionally, he contributed to four top-3 Scarlet & Gray relay finishes, including a win in the 400 medley relay, second-place finishes in the 200 medley and 200 free relays and third place in the 400 free relay.

UNLV’s 200 free relay and 400 medley relay times were new season-best marks.

Vazquez, a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, notched a pair of top-3 finishes in UNLV’s home invite win.

He recorded a second-place performance on the 1-meter springboard with a finals score of 314.10 and added a third-place score of 343.65 in the 3-meter finals.

The UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to action for their double dual against Cal Baptist and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. PT.
