CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is calling on the Biden administration to extend TPS protections.
On Tuesday, Ford announced that he and 14 other AGs in urging the outgoing administration to extend the status for all 17 countries currently designated, or at least for the seven countries where the designation is set to expire within the next six months.
In a letter to Biden, the AGs urged the granting of TPS protections to Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya and Mail, citing dangerous conditions in those countries, where Ford says they face risk of suffering human rights violations, violence, sexual violence, use of child soldiers and other abuses.
“Many of the immigrants in our country with TPS have found refuge in Nevada, and our commitment to human rights cannot abide seeing these individuals forced back into harm’s way,” said AG Ford. “I applaud the Biden Administration’s swift action in extending TPS for El Salvador, Venezuela, Ukraine and Sudan. I also continue to call for the administration to take further action in the other countries.”
The Biden administration has already announced its intention to extend TPS protections for El Salvador, Venezuela, Ukraine and Sudan.
