LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – City of Henderson cat trappers are busy at work ever since they got the green light to start trapping, neutering and releasing stray cats.

FOX5 was invited to tag along Henderson Cats, as the group conducted one of their first missions in the city of Henderson.

They tend to do their TNR usually after the sun goes down because that is when the cats are likely to come out and look for food.

At this undisclosed mobile home park, Arvie Bromley wanted to catch 20 cats.

“It stops the breeding of the cats, it allows them to continue to live,” Bromely said.

Bromley and her team have been doing this around the valley for a while, but now she is able to do it in Henderson, after the city approved of a one year pilot program last month.

“It just hurt me to not help them,” Bromley said.

As soon as the program was given the OK in Henderson, Bromley said the team had 20 locations on their list.

“Many of these cats have been abandoned and have been reproducing, and they don’t want them to be euthanized they just want them to stop breeding,” Bromley said.

After putting some food into the traps, it didn’t take long for a cat to go through.

After they are trapped the cats will go to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society where they will be vaccinated, spayed or neutered.

FOX5 went back with the group after a couple days as the trapped cats were released.

The cats were released from the same area they were trapped in, and residents there agreed to continue taking care of them.

However, this time they know the cat population won’t be multiplying in this area.

Since this is a pilot program, the team will have quarterly meetings with the city of Henderson to update them on them on the number of cats that have been successfully part of their TNR program.

They are hoping this will be a permanent program for Henderson.

Bromley said the surgeries are based on donations and if you would like to donate or volunteer you can email her [email protected]
