LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Efforts to find and recover the remains of a missing pilot have been stalled by rugged terrain, according to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Martin went missing after taking flight on Jan. 2, and search efforts have been underway since Jan. 5. Using cell phone data, search and rescue teams were able to pinpoint his last known location around the Round Mountain area.

On Saturday, NCSO shared that a game warden was able to locate the missing pilot’s crash site on Mt. Jefferson, but attempts to get to the area were unsuccessful. Police added that photos of the crash site suggest there was no chance of survival.

In an update Tuesday morning, police shared that they have “exhausted all possibilities of reaching the crash site to complete a recovery.”

Police stated that they are expecting resources to help get across the rugged area to locate any possible remains, which will not arrive for several weeks.
