LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It’s been over 50 days since a student was hit by a car near Pinecrest Academy Cadence, and parents say their concerns about traffic safety remain.

Despite U-turns in school zones being prohibited under Nevada law, FOX5 cameras caught drivers making illegal maneuvers near the school.

Parents say they hope something will be done before someone gets seriously hurt.

One parent, George Bailey, told us he’s surprised that more students haven’t been hit, considering the chaos that ensues during drop off and pick up times.

“I’ve seen the police come through here a few times and kind of watch it, but not as frequently as I would like so,” Bailey said.

FOX5 reached out to the Henderson Police Department; in a statement they said:

The principal of Pinecrest Academy Cadence, Bryan Rudden, gave FOX5 an update on the safety concerns and said he spoke with the City of Henderson recently.

“They are going to support and add some additional signage on Grand Cadence for us or some lights on some of the signs just so there’s a level of awareness for families earlier than the crosswalk,” Rudden said.

In a statement, the city of Henderson said:

The city of Henderson also added “there’s no timeline as of yet since they are still exploring options.”
