LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police identified the victim in a 2001 cold case as Virgia Mae Jackson.

On Jan. 11, 2001, Metro and Henderson police responded to a report of a human skull located near Pabco and Sunset roads.

Detectives and crime analysts processed the scene and located more human bones from a shallow grave. The remains were named Jane “Pabco” Doe.

The investigation went cold until 2021.

The remains were sent to Othram Inc., it’s a lab in Texas that uses whole genome sequencing and genealogy. In November last year, cold case detectives identified the victim through DNA as Jackson.

Family members said she left San Antonio with her four children sometime in the mis 1990s. Records show that she lives in Las Vegas in 1995.

Family said Jackson wanted to “start a new life” and live close to her friend who she had met in Texas and lived in the Las Vegas area.

Police said Jackson struggled and was not able to care for her children. The oldest went back to live in Texas and the others were placed in temporary care in Las Vegas.

She visited her children regularly until one week she stopped showing.

“Virgia was never reported missing to LVMPD due to her family thinking she had simply disappeared,” police said. “She was last reported living near Harmon Avenue and Mountain Vista Street.”

Police believe she went missing sometime in 1999 or 2000.

Metro did not immediately say if they suspect anyone of her death.

Anyone with information about what may have happened to Jackson or anyone who may know the identity of Ava or Eva, her friend, is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521.
