LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Clark County School District substitute teacher who allegedly punched a student after the student called him a racial slur accepted a plea.

Re’Kwon Smith was arrested April 25, 2024 after reportedly fighting with a student in the hallway on school grounds.

Court documents reveal on Jan. 7, Smith entered a no contest plea deal, and waived his right to a trial on his battery charge.

The Judge ordered that his battery charge be reduced to a misdemeanor if he met the following conditions:

  • Stays out of trouble for 90 days
  • Attends an 8-hour class on impulse control
  • Has no contact with the victim
  • pays a $250 fine

According to Justice Court Records Smith’s additional charge of disturbing the peace was dismissed.

Smith is set to appear in court for a status check on April 7.
