LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – NV Energy confirmed a copper wire theft incident to a Las Vegas substation impacted multiple customers.
According to airport officials Harry Reid International airport temporarily lost power around 3:23 p.m.
Terminal 3 lost power and a backup generated kicked in. Security doors were reportedly not affected.
NV Energy was on the scene and began restoring power around 4:44 p.m.
“In 2024, NV Energy doubled down on efforts to ensure all suspected copper thefts are reported to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Our teams also take precautions and work to ensure our facilities are secure and are not easily accessible by potential thieves,” said NV Energy.
Officials reported the outage caused minor delays to flights following the slow return to power to select doors impacting onboarding.
One customer is still without power.
