LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) -Homebuilder Taylor Morrison and several Clark County departments and stakeholders gathered Wednesday to discuss development of the Paradise Spa condo complex.

The condo is located off south Las Vegas Boulevard near Silverado Ranch.

“It’s important to me that we have a new developer to take that property over and really make something that we can be proud of,” said County Commissioner Michael Naft.

The once pristine Paradise Spa condos took quite a turn, around 2006, when complex officials say the condos were bought for development. But the area went down downhill when the 2008 market crash happened, and finances fizzled. The area has been plagued with fires over the years including some recently, some that were deadly.

Homebuilder Taylor Morrison is now in the process of buying the property to redevelop and met with County Commissioner Michael Naft on Wednesday. The plans are for residents to relocate, and buildings taken down.

“The buildings that are unsafe and unsecured be taken down as quickly as legally possible,” said Commissioner Naft.

The commissioner says his hope is that demolition could begin next month but says the developer doesn’t own the property yet and is waiting for court permission to demolish buildings. Naft says the county has been on site to make people aware of services available to them, including information to help them relocate.

“We will continue to return to the property to make people understand that, yes, change is coming. This is happening. There’s going to be a court order sale. The sale is moving through the process,” said Naft.

He added, “But we also recognize there are people who’ve been living there a long time and rely on that for secure housing.”

The HOA President of the Paradise Spas say the court ordered deadline for residents to be off property is August 31. He also tells FOX5 the court is waiting for a demolition plan from the builder, which he says will include air quality impacts and assurances the demolition can be done safely.
