LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of North Las Vegas will consider approving a $350,000 settlement for a 2023 lawsuit filed against a corrections officer.

The lawsuit was filed by Cherie Blackmon against the City of North Las Vegas and Corrections Officer Jarrod Minor, who is accused of beating her while in custody.

The lawsuit alleges that Blackmon was taken into custody at LVMPD’s Summerlin Area Command on Jan. 2, 2022, for an outstanding warrant. She was then transferred to North Las Vegas Correctional Facility, where she would wait to appear before a judge.

On Jan. 4, 2022, Blackmon began arguing with a female correctional officer through the window of her cell. The lawsuit claims Minor came over and joined the argument, eventually ordering Blackmon out of her cell.

Once Blackmon exited her cell and placed her hands behind her back, the lawsuit alleges that Minor began beating her. The lawsuit states that Blackmon “suffered serious injuries to her head and face, left arm and shoulder, and her ribs, including an oblique fracture through the midshaft of her left humerus.”

It further adds that Minor “used excessive and unnecessary force against Plaintiff” and failed to provide her immediate medical care.

FOX5 has reached out to the City of North Las Vegas for additional comment but has yet to hear back.

The city council is set to review the settlement in their next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.
