LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 obtained the grand jury indictment evidence against a 43-year-old man who had prior run-in with Las Vegas police prior to hitting and injuring a Henderson police sergeant.
On Sept. 23, 2024, Jonathan Gaston was stopped by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police in a gas station parking lot.
The stop was captured on police worn body cameras which shows Gaston in the driver seat of a car as it jerked forward and hit an LVMPD patrol car.
The officer was outside of his vehicle.
“The subject woke up briefly and just hit my patrol car.” said the officer.
Officers asked Gaston to step out of the vehicle and while searching him, they found a gun in his sweater pocket.
According to court records, Gaston was arrested and placed on house arrest. In January, he failed to appear to a house arrest review. The court issued an arrest warrant.
After missing that appearance, Henderson Police read a stolen license plate on a Jeep near Boulder and Lake Mead.
Police say when Sergeant Scott Alward approached the Jeep, Gaston hit him with the vehicle.
Alward opened fire, striking Gaston in the arm. Both men reportedly recovered from their injuries. Gaston faces attempted murder charges for this incident.
Court documents obtained also reveal a new look at photos from the scene.
The photos show the bullet hole through the front window on the Jeep, the Henderson Police vehicle, and two other vehicles also hit by the Jeep.
Gaston faces 37 felony charges. His trial is expected to begin on July 7th.
