LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Like many parents, Angelica Colletto rocks her baby to sleep. Bed time was extra special for her family with the help of her Babyletto Kiwi Electronic Recliner and Swivel Glider.

“That’s the chair that I fell asleep in most nights that’s the chair that you know, he said, his first word,” Colletto said.

So it was no surprise Colletto would get the same chair two years later when she expected her second baby. She said she snagged a great deal on Wayfair and just like the first chair, it became a regular part of bed time.

“I thought I would have a similar experience with the second one but unfortunately that wasn’t the case,” she said.

In a flash, one particular bed time routine in February took a turn.

“I look to see what it is, because it’s kind of like a cracking noise,” Colletto said. “There is a USB port that came with the chair and I saw it sparking and then it kind of shot out a flame at me.”

Video captured by her nanny cam showed the fire started as Colletto was in the chair with her baby in her arms.

A Las Vegas mom jumps into action when a popular nursery chair sparks up.

“Normally I have her in this kind of cradle position, with her head right here so I felt really lucky that I had her in an upright position and that I was feeding her with the bottle this way,” Colletto said.

Colletto is seen on video struggling to get out of the recliner and quickly calls in her husband to help.

“I immediately went into a state of panic,” Colletto said.

Colletto tells FOX5 she had to rewatched the incident on the nanny cam to truly understand what just happened.

“I wanted to be sure of exactly what I saw,” Colletto said.

After she shared what happened on social media, the mom of two received a message from Teddy Fong, the CEO of Babyletto.

She tells us Fong apologized and refunded her for both chairs even though her first chair did not have any issues. In addition to an apology and refund, Fong said they would do an investigation into the chair.

When FOX5 reached out he sent us the statement which also mentions their investigation.

We at Babyletto places [sic] the safety of our customers first and we diligently investigate reported safety and quality issues identified by our customers. We are in the process of getting the product back from the family so we can do more extensive research on the product itself.

Once received, we will send the customer’s returned chair for evaluation at an independent, accredited testing lab to ensure a prompt and thorough investigation. We will also be learning more about how the product was used in the home to see if there could be other causes to the reported issue with the USB charging port. The electronic components to the chair have passed routine, voluntary testing with an independent, accredited testing lab.

Our top priority is to the well-being of the family and all families and we will do everything we can to investigate and make sure this doesn’t happen again. Please know that we are taking this very seriously.

“I think that as consumers we operate under the misguided assumption that when we buy a product that the product has quality control,” Colletto said.

Earlier this week, both chairs were taken away by the company to investigate.

However, they took a little part of Colletto’s heart as well.

“It is rough actually that is the chair I nursed him in,” she said.

Colletto said she wants other parents to be aware of the chair and unplug it if you have the same one.

FOX5 also reached out to Wayfair where Colletto bought her affected chair from, they did not answer our questions if they had similar complaints regarding this product but sent a statement that said:

We are actively working with both the customer and supplier to address this matter and are conducting a thorough investigation into the product.
