Police said the shooting happened early December last year in the 3800 block of Soda Springs Drive. This is near Cheyenne and Walnut.
When police arrived, they found two people inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. The driver was identified as Nadia Dickerson, she died at the scene. The passenger was Jermonte Dickerson. Police said he was transported to Sunrise Hospital.
Police would interview multiple witnesses. They told police about three to five people arrived. One of them, described as a woman, approached the vehicle with the others hiding nearby.
At some point, witnesses say men started to approach the vehicle saying, “give it up.” Gunshots followed. Witnesses said the suspects fled on foot.
At the hospital, Jermonte allowed police to download data from his phone. Detectives found an Instagram conversation between him and another person. He wanted to buy a gun for $1,000.
The location of the shooting was where the sale was supposed to happen. Nadia drove him there after dropping off his 1-year-old son.
Jermonte said the suspects approached the car and tried to take the money out of Nadia’s hands. She released the money and that’s when the shooting happened.
Police would find the other suspect, Allen, through an IP address.
On Dec. 31, police obtained a search warrant for another Instagram account that showed a conversation between a group of 15 accounts. They were talking about a future robbery.
The conversation included Donta Allen. One person in the conversation told him, “You not comin’, you just want to shoot.”
On Jan. 27, police interviewed Allen. The arrest report says he admitted to being involved in the shooting, including Washington. Allen said the plan was to split the money between those involved.
Police say Washington was bragging on his Instagram about committing a robbery and talked about how he and others split the money that was taken from Nadia.
On Valentines Day Washington was located at his parent’s home.
When police asked Washington if the robbery was planned, he asked for a lawyer.
Washington is set to appear in court on March 6.
