LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – New UNLV Football Head Coach Dan Mullen, Director of Athletics Erick Harper and a contingent of student-athletes and staffers from the program were on hand Tuesday to be honored by the Clark County Board of Commissioners during its scheduled meeting. Chairman Tick Segerblom welcomed the visitors wearing Rebel Red by introducing an official proclamation, which included various highlights from the team’s historic 2024 season. Joining Harper and Mullen in accepting the official proclamation was the program’s Director of Player Development and Community Engagement and former Rebel great Hunkie Cooper. The players on hand were all Las Vegas products: tight end Jae Beasley (Liberty HS), linebacker Charles Correa (Bishop Gorman HS) and defensive end Andre Porter (Liberty HS). The official proclamation read: HEREAS, it is the policy and pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners to honor and recognize extraordinary individuals who enrich the lives of others in our community: and
WHEREAS, UNLV Athletics featured a football program that set multiple records on the field and in the classroom, secured its annual rivalry trophies, and earned a multitude of accolades that created local and national interest; and
WHEREAS, the UNLV Football team won 11 games for the first time since 1984, earned its second consecutive Mountain West Championship Game appearance, was victorious in the postseason for the first time since 2000 by defeating California in the LA Bowl; and ended a season ranked in the national Top 25 for the first time in history; and
WHEREAS, Four Rebel players earned All-America honors, and Jackson Woodard was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Ricky White III was named Conference Special Teams Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the team set records with both a 3.23 grade point record in the fall semester and a 3.17 cumulative GPA, celebrated a record 40 Academic All-Mountain West honorees and led the nation with a record three First Team Academic All-Americans; and
WHEREAS, the UNLV coaches, support staff and administration helped the student-athletes turn in a season of such notable achievement that generated a great sense of pride within our community and empowered the University to welcome nationally respected head coach Dan Mullen to lead the program moving forward.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Board of Commissioners of Clark County do hereby recognize and congratulate the
UNLV Football Program
on this 4th day of March for their continuing pursuit of excellence.
