LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – A man from Honduras has been arrested on charges that he reentered the United States illegally after being deported nearly 10 years ago.
46-year-old Joel Pacheco-Hernandez is charged with one count of being a deported alien found in the United States.
The DOJ says that Pacheco-Hernandez was previously deported from the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2015 and re-entered illegally on or before May 5, 2022.
In May of that year, a Las Vegas jury found him guilty of battery. Then, in November of that same year, he was accused of insurance fraud and forgery before being arrested on Jan. 22 of this year on a charge of using or possessing an ID of another to avoid prosecution, and on active bench warrant.
He was convicted on February 13 of conspiracy to commit a crime and was sentenced to prison time. Pacheco-Hernandez has prior convictions for conspiracy to commit larceny and for aggravated felony robbery prior to being removed in 2015.
ICE learned he was in the country on Jan. 23, and he was arrested by state law enforcement in Clark County.
If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, three years of parole, a fine of $250,000 and a $100 special assessment.
