LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Senior prom is something students look forward to throughout high school, and one local non-profit is making that memory possible for all teens, regardless of their financial circumstance.

Prom is a cherished tradition for high school seniors.

“For seniors, I feel like it’s pretty important,” said high school senior Emma Burnham. “It’s one of your last things that you get to do before you graduate. You just get to have a night with your friends and hang out and have fun.”

“It feels like it’s one of the best events before you graduate senior year,” said high school senior Mychal Ramirez Rodriguez.

But prom can also be pricey. That’s why every year, Project 150 hosts the Las Vegas Prom Closet.

“We do it so that every student can enjoy their prom, regardless of whatever financial barriers they might be facing in their household,” said Kelli Kristo, Executive Director of Project 150.

The teens can try on and shop through racks of dresses, suits, shoes and prom accessories — all donated and free for the teens.

“Right now, we’re sitting at somewhere between 6,000 formal gowns and 200 suits and tuxedos for the boys,” said Kristo.

The prom closet is meant to help empower the teens, so they can go to prom feeling comfortable and confident in their outfits.

“I love this event because it just makes it so that I have some more accessibility to prom stuff because sometimes dresses can be really expensive. It just gives me a set time where I can come look at stuff and be able to find stuff that I love,” said Burnham.

Over the years, the Las Vegas Prom Closet has helped thousands of teens get dressed for prom, and this year, more than 1,600 teens registered for the event.
