LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – A Las Vegas man with prior felony convictions has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling around 1,000 fentanyl pills and unlawfully possessing ammo.
37-year-old Edward Rodriguez pleaded guilty to those charges. Rodriguez will also serve four years of parole after being released.
Court documents show that on Oct. 6, 2022 Rodriguez sold the pills in exchange for money. Later that month, on Oct. 18, when an officer with the Mesquite Police Department attempted a traffic stop on Rodriguez, he fled through a school zone and nearby neighborhood, causing children to have to jump out of the way.
He was later stopped inside a store carrying a backpack containing fentanyl, heroin, car keys, a magazine loaded with .40 caliber ammo, and a hypodermic needle with methamphetamine. Rodriguez admitted that he had a shotgun and a 40mm semi-automatic handgun with no serial number, which was modified with a machine gun conversion device inside his car.
Rodriguez has prior felony convictions for forgery, attempted burglary, and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, all in Clark County, as well as distributing a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the District of Nevada.
