LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metro Police say Molotov cocktails and a firearm were used to set vehicles on fire at a Tesla collision center early Tuesday morning.
People with their own Teslas being repaired at the collision center, near Jones and the 215, stopped by to check on their cars.
Because of the police boundary, they were not able to approach the center, and only a handful of cars were visible up until about 4 p.m. when the police tape went down.
One Tesla owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she dropped her car off Monday after getting into an accident.
FOX5’s Molly McBride: How did you find out what happened?
Tesla Owner: “On the news, we were supposed to come earlier this morning to pick it up.”
She visited the center Tuesday morning to try to get a glimpse of her car, but was unsuccessful .
Another Tesla owner who showed up Tuesday morning took a unique approach to uncovering the status of his car, accessing his Tesla’s cameras remotely.
The camera revealed damaged Tesla’s on both sides of his own. As of Tuesday morning, the status of his own car remained unclear.
“We will follow up shortly and figure out who actually owns each vehicle that was damaged and follow up with them personally,” said Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren during Metro’s briefing Tuesday morning.
Tesla owners with cars in the collision center weren’t the only people impacted by the incident.
A family visiting from California, staying at a short-term rental across from the collision center, says they were jolted awake early Tuesday morning by loud booms.
“I was kind of frantic, I’m not going to lie,” California Resident Michelle Ramirez says. “I was dead asleep, and to wake up to those booms, I thought somebody was bombing or something. It shook the whole house.”
