CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Legislature will consider a bill that would make changes to the state’s 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline.

Assembly Bill 380 was sponsored by Assemblywoman Rebecca Edgeworth and would change the team’s makeup to consist of one or more law enforcement officers, providers of emergency medical services, or persons with appropriate expertise in the field of behavioral health, such as a community health worker, a provider of case management services, or a provider of peer recovery support services.

The bill will be heard on March 24.

“It will save money for the state and allow police and firefighters to concentrate their efforts on crime and medical emergencies,” Edgeworth said. “This bill will also ensure people get the care they so desperately need, which is why it is supported by all municipalities.”
