LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Two inmates have died at High Desert State Prison, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Michael Sonner, 57, was pronounced dead Wednesday, a news release said. Sonner was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the killing of Nevada Highway Patrol officer Carlos J. Borland in late 1993. He arrived at NDOC following his conviction in 1994.

NDOC described Sonner as an ex-felon and “habitual criminal.”

Robert Villalobos died last week at the High Desert prison. He was 38 years old and was serving a sentence of 25 years to life for two counts of first-degree murder. He arrived at NDOC in November of last year. He died on April 19.

An autopsy for both inmates has been requested.

No other details surrounding their deaths have been revealed.
