UNLV students with terminated visas see federal records update

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Several UNLV students with terminated visas saw their federal records update late Monday afternoon.

According to UNLV, the Office of International Student and Scholar Compliance notified all impacted students and student-employees that their records have been returned to “active status.” It remains unclear what this may mean for terminated or revoked visas.

The university added that they learned of the update “as part of its regular monitoring of the federal SEVIS database,” or the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System.

However, the school said they had not received any official communication from the Department of Homeland Security.

The university clarified that if a student’s F-1 visa was also revoked by the Department of State, the visa remains invalid and cannot be used for reentry into the US. A new visa would be required to return.

It also remains unclear if all SEVIS records across the US will be fully restored to active status or if any may be terminated again in the future.

UNLV said they continue to provide support and guidance to those impacted, including helping fulfill any academic requirements for the spring semester.
