LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on Sunday released the names of three officers who fired their weapons after a gunman allegedly opened fire inside a local gym, killing one and injuring at least three people.

The shooting happened on Friday at the Las Vegas Athletic Club at 1725 N. Rainbow Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard. LVMPD said a gunman opened fire in the gym, killing Edgar Quinonez, a longtime gym employee, and injuring three others.

Police said the gunman then exited the gym and that’s when police shot at him. The suspect was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

The officers who fired their weapons were:

  • Officer Kaid Urban, 29, employed with LVMPD since 2020
  • Officer Skeeter Black, 44, employed with LVMPD since 2015
  • Officer Aaron Javier, 37, employed with LVMPD since 2016

It wasn’t immediately clear which officer, or if all the officers, shot and hit the suspect. A briefing of the shooting is expected later this week.

LVMPD said all three have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the review of the shooting.
