LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Over a decade later, human remains found in Nye County have since been returned to its native tribe, officials say.
The Nye County Sheriff’s Office said in July 2010, partial human remains were located in a rural area near Currant, Nevada.
In November that year, the remains were sent to the University of North Texas Anthropology Department for examination.
UNT would discover the remains were of a nine to 13-year-old boy and was a Native American. Officials said the remains were from an ancient burial, but no identity could be determined.
Nye County officials contacted the Bureau of Land Management and Duckwater Shoshone Tribe. Wednesday, the remains were returned to the tribe’s historian.
“The child is back in his native area,” the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said.
