LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The woman killed by her roommate’s son in Las Vegas was stabbed at home after visiting her daughter.
FOX5 obtained the arrest report for 34-year-old Mason Mireles. He is accused of open murder with a use of a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing Jodi Grotts, 59, in an east Las Vegas apartment.
The incident happened Saturday around 5:40 p.m. near Lake Mead Boulevard and Hollywood.
A call to 911 said someone was stabbed in the neck in the 6900 block of Dunsbach Way. They identified the suspect as Mireles. He was armed with a knife and fled the apartment on foot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Grotts unresponsive in the kitchen, leaning against cabinets. She died at the scene, according to medical.
Officers would later find Mireles at a nearby 7/11 with a “hatchet” and a 10-inch bladed knife.
Police interviewed the caller at the scene. They were home with Mireles until Grotts came back from her daughter’s.
They recalled Mireles leaving the apartment multiple times, coming back with “weed” and a drink. He would then go to the bathroom and be inside for about 20 minutes.
According to the interview with Metro, Mireles left the bathroom and started to yell “like a raging lunatic.” He would yell at Grotts saying, “it’s all her fault.”
Before the caller could react, Mireles stabbed Grotts in the right side of her neck. Mireles would stab the victim twice more in the abdomen when they were trying to call police.
When police interviewed the suspect, he denied being present during the murder and denied killing Grotts. He said he went to a friend’s house and a juvenile gave him a knife.
Because Mireles was in possession of a knife similar to the weapon described to kill Jodi, he was arrested for one count of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He appeared in court Tuesday and is due for another appearance on June 18.
