
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An Air India passenger plane that was headed to London crashed Thursday shortly after takeoff.
There was only one survivor out of 240 people on board. The plane crashed in the northwestern city of Ahmedabad.
Part of the plane fell on top of a medical college, killing at least five medical students and injuring nearly 50, according to a medical association.
FOX5 reached out to Friends of India-Las Vegas, they are a non-profit organization that promotes Indian heritage and culture.
“We are all devastated by the news of this accident,” the organization said. “This is truly heartbreaking. We don’t know what caused this accident. Our heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims. ”
The nonprofit says there are about 5,000 Indians living in Las Vegas. Many are checking in on their loved ones back in India.
The National Transportation Safety Board says it’s leading a team of American investigators heading to India to help find the cause of the crash.
